Skoda Fabia Scout Design Concept: the lowdown
We’ve got to hold our hands up here – Skoda showed this car at September’s 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show and it seems to have slipped our attentions amidst the dozens of properly new cars. But we’ve spotted it at its Czech debut, and here’s the full lowdown on the Fabia with pretensions to be a 4×4.
Few surprises are in store – it follows the formula set down by the Roomster and Octavia Scouts. So it’s based on the estate version of the new Fabia, but has only ‘visual off-road features’. That means no four-wheel drive to you and me, so it’s another weird faux-by-four.
Skoda has concentrated on plastic cladding and chromed roofrails on this concept car that’s surely a dead cert to enter production. Perhaps the lack of real innovation is what made us miss it at Frankfurt.
There is one interesting feature though – a pop-out bench that slides out from the boot floor, so you can perch on the boot for picnics. But is that enough to make this worthy of the Scout name?
The next big news from Skoda is the all-new Superb due at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show in March. It is said to be just as big as today’s cavernous saloon, but with a welcome dollop of extra style. Don’t hold your breath for a Superb Scout though…
