Speculation: Maybach 62 Landaulet

Partly soft-top convertible

The usually well informed AutoTelegraaf.nl released a short article today about the upcoming Middle East International Motor Show (MEIMS) in Dubai and that Maybach is planning to debut a brand new Maybach 62 Landaulet there.

The ‘landau’ was made popular in the ’20s and ’30s and was basicly a fixed soft-top roof instead of a metal one. The ‘landaulet’ has a fixed soft-top roof from the A-pillar to the B-pillar (covering the driver) and becomes a retractable soft-top from the B-pillar to the rear.

In January, Hummer buyers will have the option of purchasing the Ultra Marine Limited Edition H2 – the first limited edition in the 2008 model year.

It’s the exterior color that sets Hummer’s limited editions apart from the normal production line, and the new Ultra Marine color is very similar to GMC’s Blue Green Crystal. Hopefully higher quality images will be coming soon!

All 2008 H2s received the mid-cycle enhancement with an all new interior and powertrain, but the Ultra Marine will also showcase a Hummer first: 20 inch Chrome Wheels.

The Buick Enclave was one of the hottest vehicles on the market during the month of September, a new report shows. Tied for first with the Toyota Prius, the Enclave averaged the fewest days on a dealer lot before being sold. The Enclave's sister CUV — the GMC Acadia — came in at number six.

According to the Wall Street Journal study, the most popular color for the Enclave was white with the top model traded in being the Buick Rendezvous.

New Technology To Halt High Speed Police Pursuits

From the comfort of your home, your perspective escalated high above the action through the lens of a helicopter police camera, high speed pursuits can all be pretty exhilerating. But as one of the most dangerous situations on our roads, high speed police car chases should not be taken lightly.

Each year, approximately 300 lives are claimed as a result of some 30,000 high speed pursuits, but those numbers could soon be reduced with the introduction of a new technology developed by General Motors and dubbed ‘Stolen Vehicle Slowdown’. The technology has been integrated into the firm’s existing GPS-based stolen vehicle location system ‘OnStar’.

Sorry, I get confused sometimes, what with all these domestic automaker-sponsored surveys that surprise! reveal that their products' quality is nearasdammit as good as their competitions'. Initially. In some cases. If you're comparing a lack of defects– as opposed to some other, more consumercentric measure of quality. Anyway, once again Ford paid RDA Group of Bloomfield Hills to survey 31k car buyers who'd lived with their new whip for all of 90 days. The Detroit News (DTN) dutifully reports that "2007 model year Ford, Lincoln and Mercury cars and trucks had 1,395 quality issues per 1,000 vehicles, compared with 1,381 per 1,000 vehicles for 2007 Toyota, Lexus and Scion cars and trucks." (Honda came first.) Just in case you suspect that shock! Ford's patronage might have influenced the outcome, the DTN assures us that "The firm conducts similar studies for other automakers [Ed. with similar results?]," and "its findings have hewed close to those of the closely watched annual initial quality survey independently conducted by J.D. Power and Associates." Bennie Fowler, Ford's quality chief, told the DTN that Ford's "trying to listen to its customers and take their concern to heart." As Yoda would say, "Do… or do not. There is no try."

BMW is satisfied about its efforts in reducing emissions. Europe’s press has been flooded with ads that praise the diesels coming from Munich. What are they about? Oh, only the first car with more than 200 HP that promises CO2 emissions under 140 g/km.

The car in question is the 123d a 1-series 3-door hatchback mated to a 2-liter 4-cylinder engine and Efficient Dynamics with two sequential turbos (one for low rpm and the other for higher). Actual specs are 204 HP, 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 60 mph) in 6.9 seconds and 5.2 l/100 km (45 American MPG) of fuel consumption. Actual CO2 emissions figure is 138 g/km.

Latest Rendition of Future McLaren Supercar

With rumors circulating about a successor to the McLaren F1, we bring you a new artist’s rendition of a new mid-engine McLaren.  The word on the street is that McLaren is building a new, two-seater workhorse with a V8 engine, scheduled for 2010 production.

The original McLaren F1 supercar took to the streets back in 1993, to forever be drooled over by legions of car fans everywhere.  Their new car, which may have spawned from prior development work from their now defunct partnership with Mercedes-Benz, is supposed to be of a smaller and more lightweight construction.

Cargraphic GT3 RSC 4.0 Test Drive

The Polish farm worker who begged, pleaded and near demanded a lift virtually fell out the passenger door and hauled herself to her feet on visibly shaking legs. Without even touching the girl I had given her a knee trembler, but then I had a Cargraphic GT3 RSC 4.0 that stormed to victory in the Tuner Grand Prix – and that kind of helped.

See while Porsche might have claimed they’d done all they could by stripping 20kg out of the GT3 for their own RS, Cargraphic had a different set of priorities and pillaged 120kg from the standard car.
