The Fiesta name has a strong presence in Europe, especially in the UK where it dates back almost three decades, but in other parts of the globe the name doesn’t carry the same cachet. Unlike the current Fiesta, its successor will be a global model. In fact, it will be the first model developing under Ford’s new ‘One Look’ strategy where essentially the same car will be sold across the globe with only minor changes implemented to suit individual markets.
It’s for this reason execs were considering dropping the Fiesta name in favor of something new and fresh but, according to one official who spoke with AutoExpress, Ford would be foolish to “lose such a well known brand name after 30 years.†One of the new names under consideration was ‘Verve,’ the name of the concept car on which it will be based.
The new car is due to hit the streets towards the end of next year in Europe and will be available in the U.S. by the middle of 2009. When it arrives it will be available in both three and five door bodystyles. There could also be a sedan variant designed specifically for U.S. markets.
