The chassis for Lamborghini Miura #1 is such a work of art, it'd be a shame to cover it up with that swoopy, classic bodywork. The Dallara-designed masterpiece first met the world in 1965 at the Turin Auto Salon and was apparently stored after that until Marios Kritkos fell in love with it in 1977. Kritkos, who handled the importation of Lamborghini cars despite Cyprus, went to Sant'Agata in 1978 and dragged the chassis back to Cyprus. The chassis has recently been "discovered," not that it was ever really lost, and Los-Angeles based Joe Sackey (originator of The Lamborghini Miura Bible) and Gary Bobileff (whose website has a sweet Ferrari-themed interface) now have Miura #1 at Gary's shop, where it will get a renovation to an astounding standard. Give us a pair of Snidely Whiplash goggles, and we'd drive that action every day.

Whenever we drive from Los Angeles to Phoenix, we always stop at the Flying J in Blythe, California to refuel - and that might mean "refueling" on coffee, trail mix and a rented audiobook instead of gasoline.

As it turns out, though, our favorite truck stop chain's production, refining, and pipeline business has been KO'ed by the modern drop in oil prices and the credit crunch. As a result, the Flying J has nosedived into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. According to company president J. Phillip Adams, the filing is the result of a liquidity shortage. Says Adams, "With this sudden and unanticipated inability to meet our liquidity needs, we regret that we had no other choice than a Chapter 11 filing to enable us to stabilize our financial base." The company's liabilities are estimated to be anywhere between $100 million and $500 million, but according to court documents, FJ has assets worth upwards of $1 billion.

The bankruptcy proceedings are not expected to affect supplies on the West Coast, and no layoffs are as a result of the filing.

Subaru has decided to sending out a 99-edition motion of mountain bikes under its concede corporate banner called the Subaru XB steel hardtail. If there's any automaker for which such a move fits, it is Subaru (has anyone even seen a Porsche or Mercedes mountain bike in the wild?). And it's not the first time a Japanese car concern has jumped into the bicycle biz: Bridgestone had a seriously good range of road and mountain bikes in the '80s and '90s. However, Subaru's attempt will be outsourced, built-to-order, and expensive. The hardtail chromoly steel steeds will run you $3,880. For that price – even for a limited edition with decent kit – we aren't sure why anyone would opt for it over a fully-suspended Ellsworth or Ventana for the same money.
