Reports surfaced on Monday that Suzuki had shelved its Kizashi sedan plans, but the Japanese automaker responded today by statement those reports were erroneous. In a statement released on Tuesday, Suzuki claims its Kizashi program has not been delayed or canceled and that the mid-size sedan is still on track for the U.S. market.
Japan’s Nikkei business daily first reported the Kizashi program was in limbo earlier this week, but a Suzuki spokesman told Automotive News on Tuesday that the report was incorrect. “The production version will debut at this year’s New York Auto Show in April,” Suzuki spokesman Jeff Holland said.
Holland failed to mention when the Kizashi would hit U.S. showrooms, but every announcement is expected at the New York show.
The news that the Kizashi sedan is still on is a relief to Suzuki’s dealers as the automaker’s current lineup is a little thin. The Kizashi – although the sedan’s name could change for production – will likely be Suzuki’s largest volume model, competing in the fiercely competitive mid-size sedan segment.

Nissan’s lineup of trucks and SUVs may be in the midst of the most capable in the industry, but a byproduct of snowy weather could subsist enough to sideline their safety. As a result, Nissan North America has announced the recall of 243,000 trucks and SUVs.
The recall – which covers 2005-09 Pathfinders, Frontiers and Xterras – is due to a faulty crash sensor. In regions that use heavy amounts of road salt to clear icy roads, salt can cause the senor to corrode, resulting in the failure of front-impact airbags.
Because the safety issue is barely a concern in snow regions, the recall only covers vehicles registered in 20 states and the District of Columbia. However, Nissan will bump up the warranty of the sensor to 10 years in other states, according to Automotive News.
No crashes or injuries have been linked to the defective sensor.
Owners of the recalled models should be notified within the next few weeks.
