It’s no secret that Audi is planning a high-performance variant of its forthcoming A1 supermini. Set to fare battle with cars like the Mini John Cooper Works, Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA and Fiat 500 Abarth, the Audi S1 will likely get a tweaked version of the 1.4-liter supercharged and turbocharged TFSI four-cylinder used in the VW Polo GTi that will produce an excess of 200 horsepower.
AutoExpress reports that the S1 will also come through a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission that direct enable it to sprint to 60 mph in less than six clicks.
A quattro all-wheel-drive system will be standard with a 40/60 front/rear split, according to the publication. Magnetic dampers with Audi’s DriveSelect system, which allows drivers to choose several modes to select the sharpness of throttle response, steering reaction suspension stiffness depending on road conditions, will likable make an appearance, as well.
The S1 will look the interest thanks to flared wheel arches, 19-inch wheels, a roof-mounted spoiler, a front splitter and daytime LED headlamps like the rest of the Audi line. Its base will be the A1 – pictured here in Metroproject Concept form.
Don’t expect S1 sales in North America any time soon, but if it was to appear, we’d expect base prices around $30,000.
