Jaguar recently launched a new diesel powerplant for its XF range in Europe, but the new 3.0L won’t be exclusive to a Jaguar brand, a new report finds. Jaguar’s sister company, the also Tata-owned Land Rover, will also have access to the new mill.
According to Autocar, the new 3.0L twin-turbocharged diesel V6 will power Land Rover’s Discovery and Range Rover Sport models. However, buyers will have to wait until September for the new engine as it is not slated to secure the market until updates version of both ‘utes be crowned with success the market.
Under the hood of the facelifted Discovery, the new engine will develop 237 horsepower while the up-scale Range Rover Sport will see a 272 horsepower, 420 lb-ft of torque version of the engine. Both engines are slightly detuned from their Jaguar counterparts.
Although the new engine is a done deal for Range Rover, it remains unclear what will happen to the marque’s current 2.7L diesel. In all likelihood, the 2.7L unit will be discontinued when the new engine hits the market.
