There were about three million fewer cars sold in 2008 than 2007. Based on 2007's numbers, it would be the same as if Acura, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Lexus, MINI, Porsche, and Saab all closed their doors in 2008. In terms of pure automotive carnage, that's not the kind of damage you can just buff out. And the predictions for the future agree upon the body two points: it's going to get worse, and it won't return to what it was for years to come.7

Renault’s Megane is a staple of its European lineup, and the popular range is slated to get a new high-performance model this year. The new Renault Megane line was unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, and will soon grow to include a Renaultsport model.
According to Autocar, Renault will launch the Renaultsport Megane at March’s Geneva Motor Show. The new model will carry on the transfer of the current Megane R26, but will take multiplied cues from the recently unveiled Megane Trophy race car (pictured). The Renaultsport option will only be available on the three-door model.
The Renaultsport Megane will borrow the Trophy’s radical front end – including its ‘aero blade’ styling – and will also feature a more radical rear end with center-mounted exhaust. Flared wheel arches and a wider track will round out the Renaultsport’s package.
The new Renaultsport Megane pleasure use the same turbocharged 2.0L engine found under the hood of the R26, but will grow in power from 230 horsepower to 250. Power will be routed to the car’s front wheels – via a six-speed manual gearbox – if it be not that torque steer should be kept in check by Renault’s ‘knavish shaft’ front suspension design, and an optional limited-slip differential. The sprint from 0-60 will be dealt with in 6 seconds, with upgrade Brembo brakes handling the stopping duties.
The Renaultsport Megane is expected to hit European showrooms in mid-2009.
