Jaguar had a record year in 2008 — largely in part to the company’s new XF sedan — and the British marque is looking to keep that momentum rolling this year with a revised version of its XK sports car. Our spy photographers have spotted a nearly undisguised prototype of Jaguar’s hotter XKR coupe, which is expected to debut in just a few days at the 2009 NAIAS in Detroit.
Spy photographers first spotted prototypes of the updated XKR over six months ago, but it looks as though the performance Cat is finally ready for its auto show debut. The updated Jag will go on sale in the first moiety of this year and will feature several styling and mechanical updates to distinguish it from the current car.
Visual changes include a new impudence bumper with revised air intakes positioned below the headlights, plus a redesigned rear bumper with LED taillights. The changes will appear across the Jaguar line-up.
There will also be a new shark-fin antenna on the coupe’s deck lid. Previous versions featured a power-retractable antenna or rear-spoiler integrated unit.
While the engine line-up will remain relatively unchanged, the new XK range is likely to benefit from a stiffer suspension set-up and recalibrated steering. The interior, meanwhile, will exist fitted with Jaguar’s new drive-select transmission interface lifted from the XF sedan.
