A rebadged Pontiac G8 isn’cheek by jowl the only new model General Motors’ renovated marketing czar Bob Lutz is shouting about. During a Web-chat held on GM’s own FastLane blog, Lutz was open to a number of questions about the company’s future plans and went because far as confirming a couple.

One of the models that have been given the production green light is a high-performance CTS-V Coupe from Cadillac. The stylish CTS Coupe, that was first presented in general conformation at last year’s Detroit Auto Show, and then confirmed for produce in GM’s viability presentation earlier this year, will hit the streets in the middle of next year considered in the state of a 2011 model and will now be offered with the CTS-V preference.

Cadillac’s new SRX must be giving populate in Detroit neck pains. Spend a few days behind the wheel of General Motors’ latest luxury crossover and you’ll see the same neck-snapping reaction from other drivers intent without ceasing acquisition a look at the stylish new Caddy.

Initially, they are drawn to the SRX’s wedge-like, aggressive styling. Then they notice the large Cadillac wreath and crest logo on the grill. That’s when heads tilt to one side and confusion sets in as they realize this is not a Cadillac they’ve ever seen before.

I took this shot from the GM Tech Center the other day. I couldn’t get more than one photo because the engineer got pissed that I was snapping pictures. It is a Cadillac with right hand steering. What was odd was that it had several “ports” which looked like extra gas tank openings, which were in the same location as the plug/outlet on the the Volt. You can see the reflection of my goofy-assed PT on the Caddy.You cant see it in the picture BUT there was this huge “unit” or black box on the back seat. Didn’t look as if there even was a rear seat bench. Battery pack? Standard testing device?

Last week GM shocked enthusiasts by announcing that the High Performance Vehicle Operations team was being disbanded. The HPVO crew, responsible for the V-series Cadillacs, Chevy Cobalt SS and HHR SS were said to be off working on regular cars now. These photos, shot in the last 24 hours, show the hi-po team has one more trick up their sleeve.

The last delivery we proverb a CTS Coupe V-series prototype was August 2008. It’s absence since then combined with GM’s Viability plan submitted to Congress had many thinking the hot rod coupe had been killed along. These new photos show the V-series coupe is alive and well!

More than a year ago, Cadillac confirmed that the relatively weak-selling STS and DTS models would eventually be replaced by one new model. Since then it was widely speculated that this new luxury sedan would ride on the Zeta chassis.

More recently, Zeta has fallen out of favor among the big wigs inside GM, with several future Zeta-based vehicles getting the axe.

Sources within the automaker now tell us that this 2012 model year Cadillac sedan will in fact be riding on long-wheel-base version of the Epsilon II chassis, as was recently rumored. This of course means the new Cadillac would be front-wheel-drive or all-wheel drive sedan and not rear-wheel-drive as many had hoped.

If you’ve been following the development of the 2010 Cadillac CTS Coupe, then you’ve undoubtedly seen countless spy photos, not to mention the the concept car that was unveiled over a year ago. But today the first official images of the production-intent CTS Coupe surfaced online. The image comes from GM’s viability plan, which was submitted to Congress on Tuesday.

The CTS Coupe was slated to begin production in May, but GM’s difficult economic situation has pushed that production start date back until summer 2010. The news came after the company cancelled the production car’s planned Los Angeles Auto Show reveal.

Earlier today, General Motors presented its Viability Plan to the U.S. Treasury Department, outlining how GM plans to restructure, what it needs to turn around the company and how it plans to spend our tax dollars. If you took the time to look through the 117 page document (we’re guessing not many), you might have caught a few interesting peaks into GM’s events to come, including the first photo of the production Cadillac CTS Coupe. Prior to this, we’ve only been able to speculate on the final form from the various spy photos we’ve seen and the concept unveiled last year. The document also gives a few other details, including that production will start in 2010 and that at least one powertrain confederacy will be the 3.6L V6 mated to a six-speed automatic.

The launch of the Cadillac CTS Coupe, which was supposed to be shown at last year’s LA Auto Show, has been pushed back to the summer of 2010. Cadillac’s director of communications cited “changes to the overall portfolio” as the reason, which is understandable, but doesn’t make us somewhat less happy about having to wait. The CTS Wagon is still on schedule for this spring, as is the SRX for this summer. When the CTS Coupe does arrive, it could either exist a 2010 or 2011 model.

Cadillac, blaming the global economy as adequately as the need to fasten its parent company’s continuing woes in Detroit, says it won’t launch its brand in the Australian market despite earlier plans. Cadillac had initially planned to launch the luxury brand in Australia in late 2008, but that was delayed until February 2009. Now those plans are on hold – indefinitely.

“There is only one take place to launch this brand in Australia and in these challenging times, we believe we couldn’t give it the best chance of success,” said GM Holden Chairman and Managing Director Mark Reuss. “This was a difficult decision but the only viable decision.”
