General Motors’ newly-appointed Vice Chairman, Bob Lutz, has penned a post on GM’s Fast Lane blog that be possible to be boiled down to two words: My bad.

A flurry of reports spurred on by the agency of Lutz’ comments that GM was considering adapting the Pontiac G8 into a reborn, rear-wheel drive Chevrolet Caprice have been down-played by a number of the General’s generals, including CEO Fritz Henderson. In Lutz’ post, he put the final nail in the G8-cum-Caprice’s sarcophagus saying:

“The G8 resoluteness not be a Caprice after all. I’d mentioned it, and said we were studying it, giving it a serious look, because a car like the G8 was just too well adapted to waste.

TTAC Commentator and sometime author Niky Tamayo gives us insight into New GM’s new Carmaro’s tranny probs, thanks to this technical bulletin (first published on Camaro5.com).

And here I was giving people crap for complaining about weak Camaro gearboxes suggesting, in all likelihood, hoonery was the cause of failure. But when GM itself cites the torque handling capabilities of the Camaro transmission as being a gnat’s hair higher than the engine’s peak torque. Then you can’t help but wonder how many more will blow before the uprate the transmission. While GM is in no way obligated to build indestructible transmissions for street cars that it has to warranty, you’d think they’d either allow themselves a little more leeway in transmission strength, given the fact that anyone buying a V8 Camaro isn’t likely to NOT hoon the hell out of it, or program the traction control or launch control to limit torque on hard launches . . . y’know . . . just in case.

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is already in short supply, but those wanting a manually equipped SS model will have to wait even longer. Chevrolet has officially stopped shipment on manual Camaro SS models due to a problem with the car’s six-speed gearbox.

General Motors has yet to reveal what the actual problem is, but the issue is reportedly linked to the gearbox’s output shaft. We asked Adam Denison, commander of Camaro PR, with respect to the problem, and this is which he had to say:

Importing the Australian-market Holden Commodore to America as the Pontiac G8 was arguably one of the smarter moves GM’s management made with regard to the Pontiac bolt. But with the demise of the division at hand, Americans are once again without a large rear-wheel-drive sedan from The General. Or maybe not. If Vice Chairman Bob Lutz has his way, the G8 will become the newly come Chevrolet Caprice.

No sooner that we learned that Bob Lutz reversed his decision to retire from GM at the end of the year, deciding to extend his career as the firm’s vice chair in charge of all “creative elements of products and customer relationships”, and the 77-year old is offering American car nuts a reason to celebrate. In an interview with Automobile Magazine, Lutz revealed that the Pontiac G8 isn’t dead after all.

Demaliciousness the fact that only a month ago, in a live chat with online readers, GM CEO Fritz Henderson supported that the rear-wheel drive Pontiac sports sedan won’t live in any other brand, Lutz told the magazine that the G8 will be reborn in the USA as the Chevrolet Caprice.

Wasn’t it just a couple of years ago that the American Family Association was boycotting Ford for marketing in gay-centric publications? Small, economical cars may have being all the murmur in Europe right now otherwise than that that doesn’t mean automakers are neglecting the big cube performance market. One of America’s heavy hitters will soon be tearing up the tarmac across the pond according to information revealed by Chevrolet’s generalissimo manager in Europe.

Speaking with Auto Motor und Sport, GM executive Jurgen Keller that the rejuvenated Chevrolet Camaro muscle car will find its way to Europe through official channels, most likely sometime next year. Keller wasn’t willing to lay open any other details and so remote no other suggestion of a European Camaro launch has been made by GM or at all other source for greater degree of time.

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro looks to be a bona fide strike together for General Motors as the Detroit automaker is struggling to keep up with demand. After taking more than 10,000 pre-orders, GM is scrambling to perform the duties of the 25,000 distributor orders that have flooded the Camaro’s Oshawa, Ontario plant.

GM has seen it sales slide more than 40 percent this year, but the Chevy Camaro is flying off dealer lots. In fact, demand is so high that most dealers say they won’t see another Camaro for several months. Those that quiescent have the new-age pony car in stock are routinely attractive $500 over MSRP.
