Ah the CVT. The answer to all of our problems. Its step-less shifting was to be the two good for performance and good husbandry while giving you a wafting cloud allied experience. That is to the time when it fails costing the owner $8,000 to replace. It’s been a huge frustration for quite a few R50 owners who opted for the CVT over the of the hand with crowd failures happening precisely around the time the agreement expires.

Automotive Energy Supply Corporation has kicked off pilot production of lithium ion batteries. For those who have not been paying enough attention, AESC is the joint risk between Nissan and NEC that is developing batteries for electric and hybrid batteries. The first AESC production line is located adjacent to Nissan’s Zama Operations Center in Japan.

Mazda, keen to join the hybrid vehicle onslaught, will join forces by Toyota in securing the required techonology.

In much the same way Nissan licensed its early hybrid technology from Toyota, Mazda devise now follow a similar tack according to a report published in Nikkei business daily.

It is reported that Toyota faculty of volition hoard Mazda with the core parts for its forthcoming hybrid vehicles which are due to hit the market by 2013 with Mazda planning to take a bribe for 100,000 hybrid units annually.

It’session Nissan’session time to upgrade its model portfolio with the release of its 2010MY range for the US market. Besides those 2010MY vehicles such viewed like the refreshed GT-R with 485HP that are already available for sale, the Japanese automaker has updated most of its models by adding new features and color options. For example, the 2010 370Z Coupe gains standard heated outside mirrors and an in-cabin microfilter (as if Nissan had to wait for the 2010MY to sum these features…) while the Black Cherry exterior color replaces Chicane Yellow.

Bank Of America-Merrill Lynch have released their annual “Car Wars” report, and it predicts slumping sales for GM and Chrysler. GM’s market share of 22 percent last year is seen shrinking to a mere 15 percent, which is significantly lower than the 18 percent number that GM admits to. The reall butt-clencher? Merrill Lynch based its calculations on a 14m unit SAAR, which is much higher than the 10m SAAR that we’ve been seeing through the first half of the year. Which means GM’s losses could be even worse if we don’t see a return to those sales numbers soon. Even at a 14m SAAR though, the three percent discrepancy between GM’s numbers and Merrill’s would amount to GM selling half a million fewer autos than expected. The report places blame on weakness in GM’s new-product pipeline for the projected drops. GM’s Tom Wilkinson fires back at the Freep, arguing “we understand that analysts get paid to try to predict the future… but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are going to be right.” Gosh, can’t anyone just trust GM?

The premier of the Canadian duty of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, reportedly plans to announce a major incentive program for plug-in vehicles today in Toronto. Ontario has already given independent billion dollars to General Motors and Chrysler and wants to help boost the industry further to make essay and recoup some of its “investment.” To that end, McGuinty plans to dare tax incentives of up to $10,000 toward the purchase of plug-in vehicles.
