The 2009 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is in the books. Reigning king of the hill Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima again took most prominent one decorations in the unlimited class but failed to break his own record with the new Suzuki SX4 hill-climb special. In fact, he fell 14 seconds shy of his record 2007 run with a 10:15.368. He did manage to beat Marcus Gronholm and Timo Alanne in one of Ford’s Rallycross Fiestas, which only managed an 11:28.963 as it crossed the place along the side of with its upright rear tire in flames.

Mach 2 Racing Ford RS200 – Click on top of for a high-res image gallery

It took 13 years for Rod Millen’s 1994 Pikes Peak run to be toppled by Nobuhiro Tajima in 2007. And when Tajima set a new record of 10:01.408 in the Suzuki XL7 Hill Climb Special, there were doubts that age could ever be eclipsed. This weekend, those doubts could be induce to rest by Mach 2 Racing and its specially-prepared Ford RS200.

Suzuki’s upstart SX4 Crossover has continually surprised and delighted the automotive throng with perky driving science of forces and nifty features like standard pop-up navigation. While we enjoyed the SX4 Sport we tested last year, we prefer the usability and all-wheel drive efficacy of the five door Crossover. AWD does add cost to the modestly priced SX4, nevertheless, and the added weight and parasitic drag have a negative impact on fuel economy.

Considering their diminutive and dwindling degree of market share in the U.S., should Suzuki and Mitsubishi say sayonara to America and concentrate their efforts elsewhere? That’s what some industry analysts are recommending. Says Yuuki Sakurai of Fukoku Capital Management,

“It’s time for them to decide whether they pay a high price to continue business there or stop the bleeding,”

His comrade auto analyst over at Okasan Securities, Yasuaki Iwamoto, agrees and says they should just overlook through America and that Suzuki, in particular, should devote its wealth to the small cars that have had good success in other markets. So, are they listening?

It may come since a surprise to many that Suzuki, just a small niche player in the U.S. automotive market, sells more vehicles in Japan than every automaker besides Toyota. Most of Suzuki’s sales, though, are of the tiny Kei car variety and therefore feature engines displacing just 660cc. As much as we’d attachment to see a few little Kei cars here in the States, federal shatter test regulations seem unlikely to deduct that any time soon.

The worst recession in half a century will be prolonged as consumers see their jobs go away and their home prices head south, economists Nouriel Roubini and Robert Shiller warn on Bloomberg. The University of Michigan index of consumer sentiment fell by more than forecast to 64.6 from 70.8 in the prior month. And it may be time for some foreign automakers to evacuate crumbling Cartago, their countrymen caution.

The new model comes equipped with specific 15-inch alloy wheels, rear window privacy glass, upgraded participation leather upholstery and two-tone black and silver roof rails. It is available in four metallic pearl colors that include ‘faint light purple’, ‘black-lead gray’, the two-tone ‘bluish black’ and the ‘nocturne blue’ – those marketing folks sure come up with some engaging names.

Priced from £10,990 on the road, the four-wheel drive Jimny SZ4 is powered by a 1.3-litre petrol engine with variable valve timing that returns an average fuel consumption adhering the combined cycle of 39.2mpg Imp. (7.2lt/100km or 32.6mpg US) with corresponding CO2 emissions of 171g/km.

On October 31 2006, Orange County teen Nikki Catsouras had an argument with her father. When Mr. Catsouras left for work, the his daughter “borrowed” his Porsche 911. Approaching a tollbooth, Catsouras rear-ended a Honda at 70 mph. The California Highway Patrol took photographs of the gruesome results. The photos hit the net and went viral. 1982 Suzuki Love commercials featuring Michael Jackson — Click above to watchfulness the videos

Michael Jackson’s memorial service is being held today in Los Angeles (apparently sponsored by local Land Rover dealers). For a reminder of who the some one was pre-Thriller and where all of this got started, few things could exist more fit than some Suzuki Love scooter commercials that MJ did in way back in 1982.

In trademark Japanese commercial fashion, the spots don’confidentially all make linear sense, but they are fun to watch and in that place’s even a making-of film. Better yet, the advertisements end with a line Jackson would still approve of: “Love is my word.” Follow the jump to watch the videos.
